Some of the stuff I’ve seen happen this week…you can’t make up. Weeellll, that’s actually not true. Fiction writers fill novels with this kind of crazy stuff all the time. You just don’t usually see these stupid human tricks play out in real life. As the Chinese saying goes…“May you live in interesting times.” Let’s go to the news.

The Nation I: This week, some resourceful folks planted a bunch of secession petitions in the WhiteHouse.org website, and people from all over the nation began electronically signing them. As of today, there are petitions filed for all 50 states, and there have been over 700,000 digital signatures filed. I wrote an article this week in which I stated that the petitions are entirely incorrect, and that this is not the way a state secedes…by begging the current administration for permission to leave the Union. A few people left comments here at DumpDC fussing at me for not being wildly in favor of the petitions. So here is my latest comment. In the public relations game, even when they are talking ugly about you, they are still talking about you. I am glad that the secession petitions raised awareness about secession here in America. I am glad that Sean Hannity interviewed TNM president Daniel Miller on Hannity’s show Tuesday night. The more that America hears the word “secession,” the more comfortable they will be with it. And because America heard about it on TV, that somehow lends credibility to the story and the concept. Secession is a long way from reality. No governor or state house in America will take up this topic in a serious manner until AFTER the economic collapse. Then they will deal with it out of self-preservation.

The Nation II: The CIA/Benghazi/Petraeus story got legs. Lots of legs. Girls all over the place. Two generals are now in trouble along with two Florida military brass groupies (who knew that generals had groupies?). Paula Broadwell, Petraeus’ principal squeeze, has been found to have classified data on her computer, although the source of the data has not yet been revealed. Most of us only know about the CIA from what THEY tell us about themselves, or what we see on fictional TV shows or movies like The Bourne Trilogy. So America in its ignorance THINKS that our intelligence community is the best in the world. But that is just public relations. Our spies seem to be bumbling idiots that can’t run an “op” (operation) right, even if it means their own skin. And when the guys at the top are the biggest security risks of all, you know that shyt rolls downhill into the organization. I don’t want to demean all the operators in the CIA. There are career guys and gals that care deeply about doing their jobs right. But don’t you forget this…Afghanistan’s poppy crop had been all but obliterated by the Taliban. Now the Afghanis supply 90% of the world’s heroin market. Who is running that op? The CIA. Why? One reason…off-budget cash cow that funds all kinds of CIA shenanigans. And the guys at the top are always political appointees who couldn’t spell “intelligence” before they got their cushy jobs. Case in point…Leon Panetta. Are you kidding? This guy never even sat on a House Intelligence committee when he was a Congressman. Then all of a sudden, he is qualified to be head of the CIA? Based on what? And now the guy is the Secretary of Defense? Based on what? The fact that he was a second lieutenant in the Army in 1964? Pulleeeze. The CIA is broken, and won’t be fixed by DC. It will be fascinating to see what trained monkey that Obama will nominate as the next CIA Director.

International I: Oil giant BP (British Petroleum) has agreed to pay the largest CRIMINAL penalty in the history of the world because of its responsibility for the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. BP is going to plead guilty to obstruction of justice for lying to Congress about how much oil was spewing into the Gulf waters. The amount of the fine is $4.5 Billion. Up to now, the largest corporate criminal penalty ever paid was paid by drugmaker Pfizer in the amount of $1.2 Billion. But don’t worry about BP, though. They made a net profit of $5.5 Billion….in the third quarter of this year.

Business II: A couple weeks back, I learned about a new business concept called “Social Commerce.” We all know about Social Networking and how big it has become. The use of websites like Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pinterest and others has exploded in just a few short years. Remember, Facebook launched in 2004. So in eight years, it has become the giant it is now, with over 1 billion worldwide members.

“Social Commerce” is simply gaining access to the vast numbers of eyes looking at Social Networks for business purposes. Now, the traditional method of gaining that access is advertising. But advertising on social networks is not working out as well as expected. Facebook thought they were going to make a killing selling ads to business who wanted access to all those eyes. But Facebook’s stock price has gone from its IPO high of $38 to today’s price around $22.

Turns out that social network users don’t like ads any more than they do on TV. I want to see a show of hands. How many of you record TV shows…even sports events…to view later? And how many of you fast forward through the commercials? That’s what I thought. You ALL DO. So, how can a business take advantage of Social Networking?

Referrals. Networking. Word Of Mouth advertising…the most powerful and effective form of advertising in existence. And Word of Mouth advertising costs nothing. Think about this. You went to a movie you liked and you recommended it to friends. You ate a great meal at a restaurant and told your friends. That is Word Of Mouth advertising. But let me ask you this…did the theater or restaurant pay you any commission when your friends spent money there? Of Course Not!!

Economy I: The number of actual initial unemployment claims filed under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 466,348 in the week ending November 10th. This is a whopping increase of 104,548 over the previous week and is attributable to Hurricane Sandy hitting the Northeast. Yet when I heard a news report of this story on Fox Business this morning at 8:40 am…just ten minutes after the Labor Department released their numbers…Fox reported the cooked numbers of the “4-week moving average” of “only” 383,750 as a positive trend for the economy. You may get tired of seeing this story every week, but every week the Labor Department LIES TO AMERICA. Friends, this week’s figures increased by over 100,000 in a single WEEK! That is a hundred thousand people MORE than the usual 380,000 WEEKLY NEW CLAIMS! If any economic stories concern you, this slow-moving train wreck should bother you a lot. When is YOUR JOB going to be threatened? Do you have a Plan B just in case?

In Sports: The Atlanta Falcons lost to the Saints last Sunday so their record is now 7-1. Still pretty great. Just 3-4 years ago, the Falcons led the NFL in rushing yards gained. This year, they don’t seem to be able to move the ball on the ground. Can’t win games without a ground game. Time will tell. Other than that, nothing much to talk about in Sports this week.

Sports Part II: Anytime you get a chance to watch college football, watch the SEC games. The SEC is the number one college conference for rookie NFL players. And any SEC team can beat any other SEC team on any given Saturday. Top to bottom, the SEC is the best college football in America.

Finally, in Entertainment: Actor Channing Tatum has been named “Sexiest Man Alive 2012 ” by People Magazine. First thing I did when learning this is look at Wikipedia about the guy. I figured no way that Channing Tatum is his real name…sounds made up. My bad. It’s just a very Southern name. He’s a Mississippi boy and his daddy’s name is Glenn Tatum. But have you seen this kid? He’s mighty pretty. Hope he doesn’t get all paunchy and rotund like me later in life. I was pretty once, too. See? That’s me in my wrestling pose as a high school senior. Cute, huh?

I think there are a couple of conclusions we can glean from the national elections just concluded. First is that a billion dollars got spent on campaigns and nothing changed. Mr. Obama is still in the White House. The Democrats still control the Senate. The Republicans still control the House of Representatives.

Second…the business community still controls them all.

Wage-earners have almost no deductions available to them. And in the next four years, the Obama Administration and Congress are coming for many of your deductions in a desperate attempt to steal more revenue from ALL Americans.

For most people, there is no expense in their working lifetimes greater than the amount of various taxes they pay. So, tax planning and tax preparation can have the greatest effect on your income. Just a few hours of effective tax planning can put tens of thousands of dollars back into your bank accounts. Over a lifetime, that could translate into hundreds of thousands…even millions. It could also mean the difference between the constant struggle of monthly income shortages versus living a lifestyle you enjoy.

Government is supposed to protect individual liberty and property rights. Today’s government does little or none of either. Washington DC is a massive spoils system. The best benefits go to those who have the best lobbyists and lawyers.

Taxation was supposed to be a means whereby revenue was collected to pay for the activities of the government. But over time, the tax code became a system of rewards and penalties, and ways for businesses to cock-block their competition.

The IRS code is a hopelessly broken tax system that, over the centuries, was written by business for business. The IRS code favors businesses. There are hundreds of tax breaks, tax credits, tax deductions, tax deferments, tax incentives, etc…designed specifically for business. And I don’t mean just mega-corporations.

Even the smallest part-time, home-based business enjoys tax benefits that the employee wager-earner will never get. Here is a list of only a few benefits a home-based business enjoys:

• Deduct a portion of your property taxes.
• Deduct a portion of your mortgage payment.
• Deduct a portion of your mortgage interest.
• Deduct a portion of your utilities.
• Deduct a portion of business lunches.
• Deduct mileage on your car incurred in business.
• Deduct a portion of your car payment.
• Deduct a portion of your car maintenance expenses.
• Deduct promotional expenses for your business.
• Deduct all or part of your phone bills.
• Deduct insurance premiums for auto, home, health, life, business.
• Deduct travel expenses for business purposes.
• Deduct business gifts.
• Your clothing might be deductible.
• Deduct expenses for equipment like computers, software, supplies etc.
• Deduct expenses for ongoing training.
• Deduct expenses for tax preparation.
• Deduct expenses for legal representation.
• Deduct office furniture.
• Vehicles are deductible in certain instances, and you can depreciate them.
• Deduct depreciation on all the rest of your business equipment.
• Set up a personal retirement plan and put away much more than an IRA allows.
• Hire your kids and shield income from taxation and Social Security payments.
• Deduct rent or lease payments for equipment and/or real property.

That is only a partial list, friends. And the IRS code does not say you have to make a profit. You can even deduct your losses in some cases.

So…what should you do? Should you fall into the resentment fomented by the Mainstream Media of the 97% against the 3%? That keeps you broke and it will not change the system. It certainly won’t change your financial outcomes.

The old saying still goes…“If you can’t beat ‘em, JOIN ‘EM!”

Many people dream of firing their boss and starting a business. But if you have not ever owned a business before, there is a steep learning curve. That is why some folks choose a franchise because training is included. Remember…you had to get trained when you started your job, didn’t you? You must get training to become a business owner. Few of the characteristics that make a good employee translate to being a good business owner. That is why starting a business from the comfort of your home on a part-time basis makes the most sense. This gives you time to learn and grow and make the transition from follower to leader. Still, the business that you choose can make you or BREAK you.

Only one out of five small businesses that make it to their fifth anniversary are still in business. That means that 80% of new businesses FAIL in the first five years. That failure means losing money, investments vanishing, financial pressure, stress and the shame you feel from a failure in business. And if you choose the wrong kind of business, you could lose your business through no fault of your own if your marketplace dries up or the economy slows down.

So the business you choose for your home-based business is a crucial decision for your future and the future of your family. If your new business is successful, you can change your destiny and your family’s destiny for the better. Better schools for the kids, college educations, nicer homes, nicer cars, better vacations, more charitable giving. Choose unwisely and fail in business, and you will still change your destiny. Only it won’t be for the better.

The three most important things for your business are:

1. Choose a highly consumable, life-essential product or service. First let’s talk about the “highly consumable” part. Would you rather sell a product that people use every day, or a product that they seldom have to buy? Think about the difference between a business that sells electricity and a business that sells cars or caskets. Now what about the “life-essential” part? Think about the difference between selling mobile phone service versus selling bowling balls and accessories. You cannot go a day without your phone, but you could go a lifetime without bowling.
2. Have a large, growing, inelastic market demand. A large market demand needs no explanation. But you also need a growing market. Selling pagers 20 years ago was hot. But try even finding pagers today. Don’t put your business on the tail end of a trend. And what about that word “inelastic?” It means you want your business to be steady, and not affected by boom and bust cycles. Ask homebuilders or realtors about what happens to their incomes when a boom ends.
3. Duplicatable. If you have a home-based business that relies upon your efforts, then any vacation you take, or illness you have, costs you money. You can hire people in your business, but having employees brings its own set of problems. Think about what happens to a real estate broker. He hires new people, trains them, helps them be successful. But after a while, his new people want to be brokers, just like he is. When they do become brokers, they become his competition THAT HE TRAINED. The best solution is to have associates that work with you that have the same business opportunity that you have. Then when they are successful, you still make money. This is commonly referred to as “Network Marketing.”

Those three characteristics in a home-based business are really hard to find. But they do exist!

This past week has been one for the record books. Something MAJOR happened on Tuesday. The daily traffic I get now at DumpDC.com is five times what it was on Monday. I wonder what could have caused that??? Let’s go to the news!

The Nation I: Mr. Obama won. Deal with it.

Why did Barry win? Simple. The Republicans made a mildly convincing argument that America should fire Mr. Obama. The Republicans did not make a convincing argument that America should hire Mitt Romney.

Karl Rove actually said: “The October surprise was an act of God. Hurricane Sandy interrupted Mr. Romney’s momentum.” So what he must be saying is that God wanted Obama to win.

I wrote a brilliant analysis of the election and posted it on Thursday. You can just scroll down from here and read it. But, if you were educated in government schools and mostly get your information from TV, I will take a moment or two and spoon feed you. Open wide…….

No one in America has fronted the ridiculous notion that Mitt was the best man that the Republicans could find to be the presidential candidate. He just outspent and outlasted the others. And his campaign staff, in league with the Republican National Committee, blackballed Ron Paul.

No one in America has fronted the ridiculous notion that Americans rejected Mitt as president because they rejected his core beliefs. That is because nobody knows what Romney’s core beliefs are. He was the Chameleon Candidate. Reminded me of the 80s hit record “My Obsession” by Animotion. In the chorus, the singer sings, “you’re an obsession, you’re my obsession…who do you want me to be to make you sleep with me?”

Mitt would be anything you needed to get elected. Remember he ran for Senate against Teddy Kennedy in 1994 and got clubbed. He’s been doing anything he can to get elected to some office for 18 years. He got the Massachusetts governorship in 2002, only serving one term. That was enough to enhance a resume.

Think about the HUGE thing that Romney AVOIDED in his campaign… Obamacare. If he had solemnly vowed to abolish Obamacare as President, he probably would have won. Senior citizens nationwide are scared of getting their benefits cut under Obamacare. Even though he invented Romneycare in Massachusetts, he could have made a convincing case that what works on a state level does not translate to 315 million people…especially when Washington runs it. Or, if his ego wasn’t so enormous, he could have repudiated it entirely.

Think about Mr. Obama’s own words about his “one-term” presidency. Mitt should have beat Barry about the head and shoulders with that for months. But nary a word was heard. I never saw one clip of that video.

Think about the debates. Romney pulled his punches over and over, refusing to go for the jugular on issues like the Benghazi Embassy deaths or the unemployment rate…or even simple things like the price of a gallon of gasoline.

In Texas Hold-’em parlance…Mitt was not “all in.” He was not willing to get some blood on his hands, so to speak.

And American politics is a blood sport. Republicans are not willing to play rough. In NASCAR there is a saying…”Rubbin’ is Racin’.” A NASCAR driver has to be willing to swap a little paint with other cars or he will not win. But Republicans are not willing to get mean or use a little saucy language. They are not willing to get up in somebody’s face and raise their voices. Give me a candidate who would tell a reporter to “fuck off’ when he asked a stupid question. Republicans are too Goddamn afraid of what the media will say about them. A week ago, the media was all a-twitter because Obama used the word “bullshitter.” Not that they were critical, mind you. Romney would have never used that word ‘cause he is scared. Give me a candidate that would use some four-letter words in a speech. And give me a candidate who can speak without a teleprompter…a candidate who had such deeply-ingrained core beliefs that he could defend them on the fly. Ron Paul didn’t need a damned teleprompter. He spoke from his heart, which is where his core beliefs are.

Democrats are always willing to get down in the mud and mix it up. I’m not saying it’s right…just saying that if you know that the rules of the game are that there really are no rules, the one who wants it most usually wins. Barry was fighting for his political legacy and his place in history. Mitt Romney was running to enhance his resume. Who wanted it most? I leave it to you.

But also keep in mind that Romney is the guy that got beat by McCain who got beat by Obama in 2008. He got the Nominee Runner-up trophy in 2008. This year, he gets the Miss Congeniality tiara. Romney is only the best that the oligarchy could find to do their bidding. It is over for Mr. Romney and his quest for the White House.

Did you watch “The Matrix”? Neo was “The One.” Apparently, Mitt is not The One.

The big joke is that The One doesn’t exist. Obama is not The One. He is merely “A Current One. “

Both men are textbook Sociopaths.

So, what are you going to do over the next four years? You may not be happy, but are you going to just bitch about it, or are you going to take control of your own life? Don’t you think that NOW is a good time to seriously consider secession?

The Nation II: My friends at the Texas Nationalist Movement tell me that their website traffic….at TexasNationalist.com…and memberships have exploded since Tuesday. Some of the major talk radio stations have interviewed TNM president Daniel Miller about secession. I saw one online survey at KYFO 790 am in Lubbock that 88.73% of respondents are in favor of secession. The question they asked was…”Should Texas Secede?” That’s all. Three words. I love Texas.

By the way, I will be on the radio with Susan Payne from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on WJCN, 1360am in Philadelphia on Monday the 12th discussing secession. Tune in or stream the broadcast live.

The Nation III: CIA Director and former Brigadier General David Petraus has resigned as CIA Director, citing getting caught in an extramarital affair. Curious to me that this comes out only AFTER the election is over. This is the CIA. They’re spies. Anybody want to try to convince me that this was not known about before Tuesday? Next question that comes to mind is: Was he “outed” to get rid of him after the Benghazi Embassy incident, and allowed to resign with some modicum of dignity? Watch this story folks. It will last about three weeks and then die.

The Nation IV: Let’s revisit Tropical Storm Sandy. I’m kind of surprised that DC did not try to postpone the elections on Tuesday. But nothing came of all the rumors about martial law and election postponement. Maybe we give the dickheads in DC more credit than they deserve.

International I: The words “renounce citizenship” are now the fastest growing search terms at Google.com. Curiously, Google’s own analytics say that the searches came from such places as Washington state, California, Texas, Georgia, Florida and most of the states of the Eastern Seaboard. Folks, I have been telling you and I’m telling you now. Your choices for liberty are (a) move to a state where secession will likely occur, or (b) escape from America and expatriate. And to do nothing but bitch and do Google searches is also a choice.

Economy I: The number of actual initial unemployment claims filed under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 355,406 in the week ending November 3rd. This is an increase of 14,489 from the previous week. In the same press release, the Labor Department “seasonally adjusted” the number to show that it was 8,000 lower than last week. At least in this case, the lies are published for all to see. And the mainstream media publishes the lies the government gives them, not the actual number shown just ONE PARAGRAPH below the lies.

Sports Part I: The Atlanta Falcons have a 8-0 record in the National Football League. They did not look sharp last Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys, but they still won. Ugly wins still count. This Sunday they take on the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome in “nawlins”. My wife and I were in the city for Mardi Gras this year. Nothing like New Orleans. Quick story. Julie and I were sitting in a seedy bar about a block off Bourbon Street one rainy afternoon and we engaged in conversation a long, lovely young lady sitting next to Julie. She handed her business card to Julie and invited BOTH of us to come to the “gentlemen’s club” that night were she would be workin’ the pole as a dancer. Sometimes my real life exceeds my fantasy life.

Finally, in Entertainment: Not a damned thing worth talking about happened in entertainment this week, but a couple headlines caught my eye. First, Shakespeare specialist Kenneth Branaugh was knighted by Queen Elizabeth this week. And most important of all…The Firefly series celebrates its 10th anniversary this weekend with a Firefly marathon on Sunday on The Science Channel on your cable or satellite provider. Awesome….

This is the first Flash Editorials I’ve done since May. My schedule changed and now I can go back to being a smart ass on video. Let’s go to the news!

The Nation I: The Gross Incompetence and Breath-taking Negligence of Barack Hussein Obama, otherwise known as the Libya Embassy Scandal. The Obama camp bitched about Mitt Romney “politicizing” the tragedy because in the early days of the attack, Romney made negative comments about Obama’s handling. Turns out, Romney was right. But what we have now learned is that Barry is the very person who politicized the murder of four Americans in Benghazi. Various reports have verified that the CIA and State Department apparachiks were watching the embassy in real time from a drone-mounted camera in the sky above the embassy. As the event unfolded, we have learned that there were military assets within ONE HOUR of Benghazi, including a battalion of Marines, Seal Teams and all. The military REQUESTED authority to make the rescue. And get this…the ONLY PERSON who could authorize the request for our military to cross an international border to rescue the Ambassador and the others was BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. An Admiral in the Mediterranean can’t do it. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta can’t do it. Joint Chiefs can’t do it. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton can’t do it. Only the President. So, what did the president do? Did he leave the situation with his National Security advisor Thomas Donilon? NO!! He dropped the situation into the lap of David Axelrod, his Senior Political Advisor…and he went to bed. You see, Barack had a big fundraiser in Las Vegas the next day, and he needed to be rested. And a few hours later, Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were brutally murdered by the Libyan gunmen. And this after Stevens had repeatedly requested more security for the Embassy and the requests were denied.

Barack Obama didn’t do anything illegal that I know of. He did not commit an impeachable offense. He just simply did not give a shit about four Americans in Libya getting murdered. Keeping his job and raising money was…and is…far more important to this tinpot tyrant than doing the right thing. And what would it have taken? A nod of his head? His signature on a form? A verbal order “GO?” But he could not be bothered. But let a storm blow up the East Coast where all those voters live, and you can see photos of Obama in the White House Situation Room making plans to rescue everybody in the East. Of course, you know that it is all bullshit. FEMA will work just like FEMA does. But all that will occur AFTER the election next Tuesday.

The Nation II: The election is next Tuesday. Don’t vote. For God’s sake, don’t vote. The voting process has been taken over entirely. Electronic voting machines are programmed regularly to miscount votes for one candidate or another. You CANNOT be certain that your vote will count for the candidate you vote for. And in a larger sense, when the people who are actually in power present you with two Presidential candidates that are nearly the same man, what does it matter which one you vote for? And think about this. Even if 100 million voters did NOT vote next week as a protest, there is NO minimum number of votes below which the election becomes illegitimate. So if a million people voted for Obama, and a million plus one voted for Romney, Romney would take office. So if your vote truly does not count…and it only gives legitimacy to an illegitimate system…if you vote, you are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

The Nation III: Hurricane Sandy was a Godsend for Barack Obama. Just before the storm hit the East Coast, the news was filled with the breaking stories about the Benghazi fiasco. It looked like Barry was going to have to eat that shit sandwich right up to election day. But Hurrah for Hurricane Sandy! Widespread devastation will help Obama look like a good guy instead of the dim-witted coward he is.

But let’s talk about Sandy for a moment or two. Hurricanes usually need warm sea water to gain strength. In late October, Weather Underground reports sea temps along the Eastern coast at less than 65 degrees. Hurricanes like sea temps above 75 degrees, and the temperature differential does make a big difference. Sandy was a big storm in the Caribbean where sea temps are still about 85 degrees. So you can see that if Sandy had come north in late August or early September, she may have been a Cat 3 hurricane when she made landfall. Sandy slowed to Tropical Storm status…because of the cool water…and made landfall at high tide in a full moon. So the water levels were spectacularly high. Some say the wall of water that came ashore was over 30 feet tall. And just like in New Orleans, Sandy flooded vast, densely populated areas with sea water, which is highly corrosive.

One of the biggest issues in Hurricane Katrina was if the wind damaged insured property first, followed by water damage from flood. It will be the same issue in the Northeast, mark my words. Insurance companies will deny hundreds of thousands of claims because of flood exclusions and then only pay small claims for a few shingles getting blown off. One of the upsides for coastal policyholders is that Sandy was not a named hurricane when she made landfall, so many policies with huge wind deductibles won’t trigger. Watch it happen and remember my words.

The final total of damages along the Eastern Seaboard will be many billions of dollars. But don’t worry. Washington has a printing press. They won’t run out of money. The insurance companies might…but not DC.

International I: Unemployment in the Eurozone rose in September to a record high of 11.6%, according to a report by the European Commission’s Eurostat agency. Spain has the highest numbers in the Eurozone, with a jobless rate of 25.8%, followed by Greece with 25.1%. On the other end of the spectrum…or perhaps I should say in the northern region of the Eurozone, Austria has a 4.4% jobless rate, and Luxembourg’s rate is 5.2%. Friends, it is only a matter of time until the Euro currency collapses…just like here in America. They can take us down, and the collapse of the Dollar will surely take down the world.

Business: Just last week, I learned about a new business concept called “Social Commerce.” We all know about Social Networking and how big it has become. The use of websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, LinkedIn, Pinterest and others has exploded in just a few short years. Remember, Facebook launched in 2004. So in eight years, it has become the giant it is now, with over 1 billion worldwide members.

Social Commerce is simply gaining access to the vast numbers of eyes looking at Social Networks for business purposes. Now, the traditional method of gaining that access is advertising. But advertising on social networks is not working out as well as expected. Facebook thought they were going to make a killing selling ads to business who wanted access to all those eyes. But Facebook’s stock price has gone from its IPO high of $38 to today’s price around $21.

Turns out that social network users don’t like ads any more than they do on TV. I want to see a show of hands. How many of you record TV shows…even sports events…to view later? And how many of you fast forward through the commercials? That’s what I thought. You ALL DO. So, how can a business take advantage of Social Networking?

Referrals. Networking. Word Of Mouth advertising…the most powerful and effective form of advertising in existence. And Word of Mouth advertising costs nothing. Think about this. You went to a movie you liked and you recommended it to friends. You ate a great meal at a restaurant and told your friends. That is Word Of Mouth advertising. But let me ask you this…did the theater or restaurant pay you any commission when your friends spent money there? Of Course Not!!

Economy I: The number of actual initial unemployment claims filed under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 342,702 in the week ending October 20th. But the Labor Department said that New Jersey and Washington DC did not submit their weekly numbers because of the storm. All day, I’ve heard the news readers only say that the national number was 9,000 less than last week. Any outrage that 342,000 people THIS WEEK file for unemployment…and that AT LEAST this amount of people PER WEEK have been filing for unemployment for THREE YEARS? Let’s see…350,000 times 24 months is 8,400,000. NEW. UNEMPLOYMENT. CLAIMS. And then the Obama Administration crows like a rooster that 114,000 jobs were created last MONTH…and that the unemployment rate is 7.8%. Let’s see…at least a million three new unemployment claims in September and 114,000 jobs created. Sure! The Obama Administration has this under control! He deserves a second term!

Sports: In the World Series, the San Francisco Giants mugged the Detroit Tigers in four straight games. Looks like the Ti-girls peaked in the playoffs because they swept the New York Yankees in four games. The Girls had no offense at all in the World Series. Cheer up, Detroit. You were in the World Series back in 1968, and then again this year. In another 44 years, you can play in the World Series again.

Sports Part II: The Atlanta Falcons have a 7-0 record in the National Football League. Oh my God! That has never happened in the history of the franchise. Team Owner Arthur Blank, billionaire former owner of Home Depot, can’t stop smiling. The team is deep in talent and healthy. They could go all the way.

Finally, in Entertainment: I watched the second installment of Atlas Shrugged last week. It’s a very well done motion picture. Beautifully shot and well directed. But the events in America in the movie closely parallel what is happening in America today. Crushing Federal regulations are forcing some businesses out of business. In the movie, the Feds order businesses to continue in business at present pricing of their goods and services, and forbid them to close. Then the Feds come to the owner of a steel company and require him to sell them steel. He refuses to sell at any price and they have him arrested and place him on trial. Meanwhile, top leaders in science and industry are disappearing. Yeah, I know how the book ends. But I’m still looking forward to the third installment of Atlas Shrugged.
