Credulity: One Major Enemy of Secession

Few things tighten my colon as much as credulity. Seems that everywhere I turn…everywhere I look…credulity looms large on the American landscape. And a credulous population will NEVER support secession.

The word “credulity” is defined as the readiness or willingness to believe, especially upon slight or uncertain evidence.

I think all of us are credulous, some more than others. But when you grow up, you are supposed to throw off credulity and use your brain to think for yourself. The maturing process is partly learning who and what to trust. The credulous nature of a child becomes a liability to an adult. As Dean Wormer said in “Animal House,” “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.”

So, we have to ask the question: Are we born credulous or are we taught to be credulous?

Based upon the definition above, we are certainly born with the willingness to believe, especially on slight or uncertain evidence. A young child knows nothing of the world around him but what his senses bring him. And one of those senses is his hearing. As he learns language, countless explanations are given to him to answer his “why” questions. And, for the most part, he lacks the ability or resources to scientifically test the explanations he’s given. He is told that some sources of information are reliable, and some are not. He accepts that without challenge, even when it does not make sense to his logical mind. So for a time, he believes in Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, Jesus, Satan and angels.

Sir Arthur C. Clarke’s Third Law is that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” And for every human, from birth until death, we live our daily lives surrounded by that magic. Infants see TV images but have no idea how they work. But they also cannot explain how their fingernails grow. The average person is surrounded by a sea of unexplainable phenomena, just like the air we breathe. So some credulity just saves us time even if it doesn’t serve us well.

There are also many areas of life in which we are told to only believe and not doubt. We are told that doubting itself is wrong and is “sinful” or “unpatriotic.”

In the metamorphosis from childhood to adulthood, countless premises, postulates, theories and “facts” are simply absorbed by us all. Once we have the mental capability to question authority, we should consider it our duty as a human being and child of God to evaluate all knowledge to identify the truth.

So, the answer to the question is that we are born credulous, and we are also trained to be credulous.

What does this have to do with secession?

If state secession is to ever win in the battle of ideas, it will require just plain folks to deeply challenge the beliefs and preconceptions they have held for a lifetime. People will only be ready for liberty when they have cast aside the monstrous lies of the past as well as those who perpetrated those lies.

Here is a short list of beliefs that must be re-examined and finally forsaken:

• The Constitution of the United States is the highest law of the land.
• Oaths of Office and Oaths of Service are sacred vows.
• Laws passed in Washington DC are legal and constitutional.
• Voting in elections is the citizen’s way to participate in our democracy.
• We must have a President to rule over us.
• A representative democracy is the best form of governance.
• America is the land of the free, and home of the brave.
• American is the freest place on earth.
• The USA is the mightiest nation on earth.
• The American military has fought, and is fighting to preserve our liberties.
• American soldiers would never attack American citizens.
• Morality must be legislated into laws.
• America needs to remain a 50-state nation.
• Americans can fix Washington through state nullification.
• We, the American citizens, must pay the debts of the DC lawmakers.
• The US government can continue borrowing and printing money.
• American will never suffer an economic collapse.

State secession will NEVER OCCUR in any American state until and unless enough individuals forsake credulity and believe only those things that can be proven. We all must become incredulous…unable to believe…toward those who lie to us and deceive us now, and have lied to us and deceived us in the past.

This process of evaluating all sensory input for truth is a very exciting way to live one’s life. Occasionally, I hear someone say how bored they are. Truly they must have the gearbox of their brain in Neutral at that point.

Secession is the hope for humanity. Who will be first?

Great piece, Russell! A remarkable piece of reasoning, flowing smoothly from human maturation process from birth through to the remnants of credulity which remains in most of humanity throughout life. This affects much more than merely secession.

this is exactly what I have been saying to people. for the most part life is satisfactory for most of the people I know what the state has taught them is absolute and unquestionable. we all know that old saying, ” don’t bite the hand that feeds you ” well, that is what secession suggest to most Americans, to them it appears absurd. some may agree and voice there opinion in favor of such actions, but will do no risk taking. I have been a risk taker my entire life, many times I have done what I believed was the right thing when no one else would do anything. the result being that everyone thinks that you are crazy, even if you were just in your cause and they know that to be true. most Americans suffer from cowardice, when faced with a challenge that truly threatens there well being , they will turn tail and run. there is not yet enough suffering to change there hearts. if we are to convert Americans from accepting Despotism to demanding liberty, we must tear down the lie’s of the state one by one. the lie I feel we must first get Americans to except the truth about are the lie’s surrounding Abraham Lincoln. America believes he is the greatest leader it ever had, when in truth he is it’s greatest TYRANT, the number one symbol of power to the state and oppression of freedom. just try talking face to face with someone you know about this and watch the reactions you get. like the outlaw Josey Whales I will not surrender to the blue coats, but I am alone, because my peers are satisfied serving there master.
